Hyundai has revealed the successor to the hydrogen-powered Nexo to launch in the first half of 2025. The upcoming Hyundai Initium model is equipped with an FCEV powertrain, promising an operating range of more than 650km (404 miles).
The exterior of this SUV combines elements from the all-electric Ioniq 5 and the ICE Santa Fe. Highlights include: boxy LED lights; sturdy C-pillars; The rear window is designed in an incline... The 21-inch wheels are aerodynamically optimized, covered with expanded fenders.
Recently revealed photos show that this new version will have smaller wheels, common roof rails and a simpler lighting system.
Hyundai has not revealed the interior details of the new model, but the company promises that the car will have a spacious cabin designed for families. Passengers sitting in the second row will have more space and a lower back angle. In addition, the large rear doors will improve access.
In terms of safety, this SUV will have 9 airbags and a sturdy chassis with a "multi-frame structure" at the front and additional reinforcements on both sides.
The Hyundai Initium is equipped with an electric motor producing 201 horsepower (150 kW/204 PS) with a large hydrogen tank allowing an operating range of more than 650 km (404 miles). Meanwhile, the Nexo version has only 161 horsepower (120 kW/162 PS) and has an EPA range of 612 km (380 miles).
According to the company, the improvement figures are achieved by increasing the output of fuel cells and increasing battery capacity. Initium can also use a fuel cell to power household appliances and personal devices through the V2L feature.
Before its launch, Hyundai will display this model at the Los Angeles Auto Show in the US and the Guangzhou Auto Show in China, scheduled to take place in November.
