The recall affects 2024 and 2025 model year vehicles, and the defect is believed to be caused by factory assembly workers, according to the company. The warning signs for these defects are a rattling noise or a loose feeling.
Kia first discovered the issue in September 2024 when a 2024 EV9 was reported missing bolts for its third-row seats. A second model was found a few days later, when bolts were found missing from the second and third rows.
The company then inspected 990 vehicles at a port, but none were found to be missing bolts. However, a third vehicle was discovered in early December 2024, prompting the company to recall the vehicle for inspection. However, the automaker has not received any injuries or accidents related to the issue to date.
The company has notified owners, and the vehicles are expected to be shipped next month. Dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace or repair the seat mounting bolts if they are found to be loose or missing.
While the recall focuses on the second and third row seats, dealers will also inspect the front seats. The process is relatively simple, as it involves removing the bolt caps, inspecting the bolts, and then tightening them to 32.5 - 43.4 lb-ft (44.1 - 58.8 Nm) of torque.
