With a production target of more than 1,200 cars/month, Suzuki received up to 50,000 orders in just 4 days. Thus, customers will have to wait about 3.5 years to receive a new Jimny car.
Suzuki has posted an apology on its website to potential customers affected by the backlog. The increased demand for the new Suzuki Jimny comes from its longer chassis design and additional doors, which provide convenience and comfort for customers. The new model is 340 mm longer than the 3-door version, but still retains its compact dimensions with an overall length of 3,890 mm.
Currently, the Jimny Nomade is produced at Suzuki's Gurugram factory in Haryana state (India) and has begun to be exported to markets outside Japan including: Southeast Asia, South Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
The Jimny is a popular small off-road vehicle from Suzuki and is exported to nearly 100 countries around the world. The launch of the 5-door version in Japan marks an important step in the company's export strategy, making it the second SUV to be manufactured in India after the Fronx.
In April 2024, Suzuki Vietnam launched the 3-door Jimny model imported from Japan with a suggested price of 789 million VND for the 1-color version and 799 million VND for the 2-color version.
The Jimny has a square design, similar to the Mercedes G-class, but smaller. Despite its small size, the Jimny chassis is a separate type (body-on-frame), which is usually only found on SUV models. The car uses a 1.5 engine with a capacity of 102 horsepower and a maximum torque of 130 Nm, a 4-speed automatic transmission, and 2-wheel drive.
If comparing the selling price of Jimny with high-chassis cars with similar prices on the market such as: Mazda CX-5, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Corolla Cross,... this model loses in terms of amenities, safety technology, storage space, and rear seats.
