McLaren W1 was limited to 399 units and all were sold immediately after launch.
With 1,258 horsepower, the car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and take only 5.8 seconds to reach 200 km/h. Over the past 20 years, McLaren has affirmed its position with legendary cars such as the F1 and P1, and now the W1 appears to dominate the supercar segment of the company.
The car is equipped with a V8 hybrid powertrain, providing a total output of 1,258 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1,340 Nm – making it the most powerful car ever produced by McLaren. Thanks to weight optimization, the W1 has a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio of up to 899 horsepower/tonne. At 1,399 kg, the W1 is only slightly heavier than the P1, and McLaren has decided to keep the rear-wheel drive system to honor its racing heritage.
The W1 is also the fastest McLaren on the road. It can reach a top speed of 350km/h.
The car can transform thanks to active front and rear wings that pop up when the car is switched to race mode. The rear of the car has an integrated “active tail” wing that expands the diffuser area and acts as an airbrake and DRS wing. In race mode, the W1 drops 1.46 inches at the front and 0.7 inches at the rear, creating a total of 1,000 kg of downforce in high-speed corners.
The McLaren W1 was also the company’s first car to feature gull-wing doors, an upgrade over the butterfly doors on previous models. With a starting price of $2.1 million, the W1 offers a wide range of customization options from McLaren Special Operations (MSO).
