In April 2025, the Vietnamese automobile market recorded sales of car manufacturers under the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) reaching 29,585 vehicles.
Although it decreased by 7% compared to March, the growth rate of 21% compared to the same period in 2024 showed a clear recovery of the automobile industry after the previous stagnation period.
From the beginning of the year to the end of April, the total number of cars sold in the industry reached 101,834 units, an increase of 23% over the same period last year.
In particular, the segment of passenger cars, commercial vehicles and specialized vehicles all recorded impressive growth, reaching 22%, 27% and 49%, respectively.
These are figures that reflect the gradual improvement of purchasing power thanks to stimulus policies, interest rate incentives and more optimistic consumer sentiment from customers.
Notably, hybrid cars continue to be a bright spot in the market. In April alone, 973 hybrid cars were sold, bringing the total number of cars in this line to 3,535 units since the beginning of the year, equivalent to a growth rate of up to 82% over the same period last year.
In the context of consumers increasingly interested in environmentally friendly mobility solutions, this number shows great potential for hybrid cars in Vietnam in the coming time.
Among the hybrid models in circulation, Toyota Innova Cross Hybrid is the leading name with sales of 228 vehicles in April, surpassing competitors such as Suzuki XL7 Hybrid (199 cars), Corolla Cross Hybrid (165 cars) and Honda CR-V Hybrid (147 cars).
On the other hand, popular car brands such as Toyota, Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Kia still hold firm in the sales rankings. Toyota leads with 5,566 units sold in the month, followed by Ford (3,997 units), Mazda (2,736 units), Mitsubishi (2,038 units) and Kia (2,055 units).
Mitsubishi Xpander continues to be the most popular model in the whole market with sales of 4,013 vehicles, followed by Ford Ranger 4,164 vehicles), Toyota Vios 3,058 vehicles), Ford Everest 1,090 vehicles and Toyota Yaris Cross 1,030 vehicles.
In terms of types, SUVs are the leading segment with 5,867 units sold in the month, followed by MPVs with 3,798 units and sedans with 3,292 units.
Meanwhile, pickup trucks and small trucks still maintain their leading role in the commercial vehicle group. The total number of domestically assembled cars reached 13,890, while imported cars were 15,695, both groups decreased by 7% compared to the previous month.
However, when compared with the first 4 months of the year, imported vehicles increased sharply by 35%, while domestically assembled vehicles increased by 13%, showing that the consumer trend is still leaning heavily towards imported products.
Although the current figures do not include sales from two major brands, VinFast and Hyundai Thanh Cong, due to not announcing business results during the period, the market trend still partly shows the new vitality of the automotive industry.
Experts predict that in the second and third quarters, the market will continue to flourish thanks to preferential policies from manufacturers, economic recovery and strong consumer shift to economical, environmentally friendly vehicles such as hybrid and electric vehicles.
