According to a report by the Hoa Binh Department of Construction, recently there have been a number of scams related to motor vehicle registration activities in the area.
For example, the vehicle owner receives a call from a person claiming to be an officer of the motor vehicle inspection unit informing him: the car is about to expire for inspection and must extend the inspection. The inspection center changes the new inspection stamp, requesting people to update the inspection stamp form. The information declared at the Inspection Center is incorrect, and personal information needs to be provided for update.
In some cases of impersonating officers of motor vehicle inspection units, the Department of Construction and the Vietnam Register instructed people to only pay a sum of money to automatically extend the new inspection period.
However, when transferring to an account (due to the small amount of money requested for transfer, most vehicle owners lose vigilance and follow the instructions), the scammers can use the following tricks such as: sending a link code or QR code and asking to follow to complete the extension, thereby being able to steal information of other accounts such as banks, Zalo...
Some cases suggest that vehicle owners buy compulsory civil liability insurance while the insurance is still valid or propose to buy a new insurance period...
Based on the provisions of the Law on road motor vehicle inspection activities, the Hoa Binh Department of Construction provides some official information as follows:
Currently, there are no vehicles that are allowed to extend the inspection time; all administrative procedures are carried out at the inspection center and all service fee, fee and charge collection has valid invoices and documents according to the provisions of law.
Inspection officers are not allowed to suggest that vehicle owners buy compulsory civil liability insurance. The above acts are fraudulent and violate the law and must be handled according to regulations.
Therefore, to raise the vigilance of people and vehicle owners, avoiding being scammed by bad guys, the Department of Construction of Hoa Binh province recommends that relevant agencies and units coordinate to propagate some of the following contents:
Warn people and vehicle owners in the province about fraudulent acts and tricks related to vehicle inspection activities.
People and vehicle owners are advised to check the vehicle again or contact the Department of Construction of Hoa Binh province and inspection centers to verify information before following the request of strangers.
The Provincial Police directed the police of communes, wards and functional departments to grasp information reflecting from people, vehicle owners and from relevant agencies to take preventive and handling measures.
People's Committees of districts and cities direct authorities at all levels to strengthen warnings about scams related to vehicle inspection activities to raise the vigilance of people and vehicle owners to avoid being scammed by bad guys.
