On May 16, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province confirmed that Mr. Hoang Nam - Acting Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province has directed units to develop a plan to demolish illegal gold mining tunnels in the protective forest area in Vinh Linh district.
The leaders of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province assigned the Provincial Military Command to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the People's Committee of Vinh Linh district and related units to develop and implement a plan to demolish and destroy all illegal gold mines.
Previously, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province proposed that the People's Committee of Quang Tri province direct the Provincial Military Command to coordinate with the People's Committee of Vinh Linh district and related sectors to develop a plan to demolish and destroy 9 illegal mines in the protective forest area of Vinh O commune, Vinh Ha commune (Vinh Linh district).
If gold mines are allowed to exist, it will pose a serious safety risk, and at the same time create conditions for subjects to repeat illegal mining activities, affecting resources and security and order in the locality.
Since the beginning of April 2025, a group of reporters from Lao Dong Newspaper have directly approached Khe De area (sub-zone 583) and recorded the scene of gold bandits setting up about 20 willinglies, digging mountains, and starting illegally mining machines. Through contact, some subjects revealed that local people were at the forefront and organizing activities.
After Lao Dong Newspaper reported, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province directed functional agencies to investigate and clarify the responsibility of collectives and individuals for the rampant gold bandits in Vinh O protective forest. Currently, patrolling and searching work is still being maintained by the forces and many cases of gold bandits hiding in the forest have been discovered. When seeing the absence of functional forces, they immediately set up a hut and continue to illegally exploit gold.
