On April 23, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital announced that the first kidney transplant patient at the hospital had been discharged after two weeks of treatment and intensive care.
Currently, the patient's health is stable, kidney function is recovered well, and test results return to normal.
The patient is Ms. N.T.N (41 years old), residing in Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh province, with end-stage kidney failure, requiring dialysis three times a week.

After being prescribed a kidney transplant, the surgery was successfully performed on April 8, 2025, with donations from brain-dead donors.
The transplant was performed by a team of doctors and intensifiers from Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, under the professional support of experts from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.
During the post-operative process, the patient was closely monitored, treated and given special care according to the correct regimen.
This is one of the first two kidney transplants in Quang Ninh. The two transplants were performed at the same time at Quang Ninh General Hospital and Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital.
Dr. Tran Anh Cuong - Director of Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital - affirmed: This is a good start for the hospital to implement the kidney transplant technique in the coming time, continuing to treat cases on the list of patients waiting for kidney transplants at the hospital. At the same time, the unit will promote investment and intensive training to move towards implementing other modern organ transplant techniques.
The first patient being discharged from the hospital is not only the joy of the patient and the family, but also a great achievement for the medical team of the hospital, affirming the capacity and the pioneering role of Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital in the field of organ transplantation.
