Thanh Hoa General Hospital has just successfully replaced a supercardiovascular valve (TAVI) for the first patient, with the direct support of Indian health experts and Hanoi Medical Hospital. The intervention marked an important step forward in the cardiovascular industry in Thanh Hoa, helping patients access high technology right in the locality.
The patient is a female, 62 years old, residing in Thiet Ong commune, admitted to the emergency room in a state of fainting and loss of consciousness. The examination results showed that the patient had a narrowing of the major artery valve - a chronic progressive disease, when symptoms such as chest pain, fainting, shortness of breath appeared, heart failure progressed rapidly, the risk of death was high and no longer responded to internal medicine treatment; valve replacement was a mandatory indication.
With the support of Indian experts and Hanoi Medical University Hospital, the team of Thanh Hoa General Hospital brought the artificial valve to the correct location through the Tube and completed the safety procedure. After 6 days of intervention and treatment, the patient was stable, recovered well and was eligible for discharge.
Dr. Le The Anh - Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Internal Medicine said that TAVI is one of the most difficult techniques for cardiovascular intervention. The main artery valve is in a sensitive and complex location, the valve must be passed through the duct exactly every millimeter. Success depends on the knowledge - experience of the doctor and the smooth coordination of the entire crew.
According to statistics from Thanh Hoa General Hospital, each year, more than 500 patients are diagnosed with atherosclerosis and are prescribed to replace the atherosclerosis valve with skin.
The successful implementation of the first TAVI case not only affirms the hospital's professional capacity, but also opens up on-site treatment opportunities for patients, reduces the pressure of referral, saves time and costs for patients' families.
