Rescuing postpartum hemorrhagic shock postpartum patient due to rare strabismus

Quang Tri - A woman giving birth naturally suddenly suffered from blood loss shock due to placenta previa, and was given timely emergency surgery by doctors.

On August 21, Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital confirmed that the unit had promptly provided emergency care for a postpartum hemorrhagic shock postpartum due to rare placenta previa.

Previously, pregnant woman N.T. T (37 years old, residing in Nam Cua Viet commune, Quang Tri province) was pregnant for the 4th time.

During pregnancy, the pregnant woman had regular check-ups at lower levels and no abnormalities were detected. During labor, she was admitted to the Obstetrics Department, Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital.

After giving birth naturally to a baby boy weighing 3.6kg, the pregnant woman's health was stable. However, abnormalities appeared when the placenta did not come off naturally.

Doctors proceeded to peel the placenta by hand but found that the placenta was very tightly attached, difficult to separate, and the pregnant woman quickly experienced heavy bleeding and blood loss shock.

Faced with the dangerous situation, the obstetrics team thought of the possibility of placenta previa and decided to perform emergency surgery to control bleeding.

During the surgery, doctors discovered that the placenta was attached to the basal region of the uterus, spreading to the posterior surface, eating deep into the uterine muscle layer, suitable for increta-type implants.

The pregnant woman was transfused 5 units of blood, including 3 units during surgery and 2 units after surgery. After a week of treatment, the health of the mother and baby stabilized and they were discharged from the hospital.

According to doctors, this is a rare case because the pregnant woman has no history of cesarean section - a common risk factor of placenta previa. The placenta cake adheres to the back of the uterus, along with the pregnant woman having labor, making prenatal recognition signs unclear.

Doctors recommend that pregnant women need to have regular prenatal check-ups, complete ultrasound tests, and provide complete obstetrics history for doctors to have appropriate monitoring and treatment plans.
