Previously, at 12:47 on July 10, Tay Nguyen Regional General Hospital received pregnant woman P.T. K. M (residing in Dak Lak province) when she was 36 weeks 1 day pregnant.
Through examination, doctors determined that the pregnant woman had not yet labored, had an inverse fetal presentation (hymen) and had a history of 3 cesarean sections in 2015, 2021 and 2023. Ultrasound results showed that the fetus was still alive in the uterus, the old surgical scar was very thin, only about 2.5mm, posing a potential risk of uterine rupture.
At 3:30 PM on the same day, the team of doctors decided to perform proactive cesarean section. During the surgery, doctors discovered that the lower segment of the uterus at the old surgical scar site had seriously dilated, almost completely losing the muscle layer, leaving only the peritoneal layer covering it.
The surgical team quickly successfully operated on a baby girl weighing 2.3kg, ensuring safety for the newborn.
After the pregnancy, doctors made efforts to preserve the uterus but could not perform it because the lower segment of the uterus had completely lost its muscle layer and was no longer eligible for recovery. After explaining the disease status and prognosis to the family, the team decided to perform a partial hysterectomy, while preserving the two annexes to save the pregnant woman's life.
After surgery, the pregnant woman received 2 units of red blood cells. Currently, the patient's health is stable, her hematology indicators have improved well and she is being monitored and treated at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.
