On April 22, news from Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital (Hai Phong) said that the unit had just received a rare case when the patient was discovered to have a foreign object shaped like a nail stuck through the skull but did not know why he was stabbed.
According to medical records, the patient, Nguyen Hong K. (born in 1978, residing in Minh Duc ward, Do Son district, Hai Phong city) was discovered by his family lying at the base of a tree at around 6am on April 21 in a state of head bleeding, severe pain, and body aches.
As soon as the incident was discovered, the family took Mr. K. to Do Son Medical Center for emergency care. After that, Mr. K was transferred to Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital at 8:00 a.m. the same day in a state of drowsiness, with black blood and lumps in the scalp wound, and a foreign object suspected to be an iron nail caught in the skull, with many bleeding scalp wounds...
At Viet Tiep Hospital, patient K. was clinically examined, paraclinical and imaging diagnostic results using CT showed that there was a foreign object suspected to be an iron nail about 6cm long, passing through the left tibia close to the joint, going deep into the brain parenchyma of the left forehead area.
The object in the skull has caused bone broken bones on both sides, there are many pieces of skull bone, many intracranial air spreads two brain hemispheres, signs of severe brain damage. Along with that, the brain wound is detected by an open intracranial object; 6 head wounds include a 3 cm tear of the left temporal area, a lava shore, a 2.5 cm small wound wound of the left temporal temple, a 1 cm trace at the top of the left occipital, a trace in the right temple, crushed edges, a right occipital trace, about 5 cm long, a torn head of the head, broken bone and "nail" deep in the brain tissue.
After assessing the patient's condition, Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital activated a red alert, established a surgical team consisting of 10 doctors from the departments of Neurosurgery, Anesthesia, Resuscitation, Hematology, Blood Transfusion, Emergency Surgery to open the skull, remove the foreign object and stop the bleeding.
According to doctors at Viet Tiep Hospital, this was a difficult case, the foreign object was a 6cm iron nail stuck through the top of the skull, very dangerous. Therefore, the entire surgical team was very careful to remove the nail. The surgery went smoothly and successfully. Currently, the patient is out of danger.
