Patient Nguyen Thi L, 52 years old, was admitted to the hospital with unusual perimenopausal bleeding. After a clinical examination, performed in-depth tests, combined with a multi-specialty consultation of Hospital K, the patient was diagnosed with stage IA endometriosis cancer, and was indicated for endoscopic surgery for vNOTES.
The surgery took place in 2 hours, the surgical team performed completely the uterus, two appendages, dredging pots on both sides. The surgery is carried out smoothly, after surgery, the patient has absolutely no skin scars, pain relief compared to other gynecological surgery methods, quick recovery and early hospitalization after 3 days of surgery.
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Binh - Deputy Director of K Hospital said: The initial success in implementing vNOTES techniques at K Hospital not only opens up more safe and less invasive surgical options for patients, but also marks a strong transformation in the application of advanced techniques, integrating into international treatment trends. In the coming time, we will continue to train and develop this technique to expand the range of prescriptions, bringing more optimal treatment opportunities for gynecological cancer patients as well as benign gynecological diseases. This is the first time this technique has been deployed in Vietnam, marking an important step forward in the application of high technology in the treatment of gynecological cancer.
Previously, doctors have successfully applied the vNOTES technique in other benign gynecological surgeries such as: surgery to remove ovarian tumors, surgery to remove the entire uterus to treat large uterine fibroids...
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Binh, vNOTES is a technique of endoscopic surgery via the vaginal canal, bringing the tool into the abdomen through the natural cavity without needing a skin canal. This method combines the advantages of abdominal endoscopy (clear image, accurate operation) and vaginal surgery (no scars left on the skin).
Initially applied to benign gynecological diseases such as uterine and adenoid sections, vNOTES has now been indicated for the treatment of early-stage gynecological cancer. The technique helps patients reduce pain, have fewer complications, recover quickly, be discharged early, save costs while still ensuring treatment effectiveness and cosmetic factors.
vNOTES surgery is a new technique developed from the concept of NOTES - endoscopic surgery through the body's natural holes. Founded in 2004 and strongly developed in the US and Europe, vNOTES has proven its outstanding advantages in the treatment of gynecological diseases: not leaving scars on the skin, reducing pain after surgery, limiting the risk of infection and helping patients recover quickly.
