About 250 officers and employees of units under the Ministry of Transport participated in blood donation, such as: Can Tho Maritime Port Authority, Inland Waterways Port Authority Region IV, Inspection Department No. 8. Along with that were officers and civil servants of the Department of Construction of Can Tho City; Traffic Police Department of Can Tho City Police and many people and union members of Thoi Binh Ward (Ninh Kieu District) participating in blood donation.
According to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), each year Vietnam needs about 2 million units of blood for treatment of injuries, accidents, surgery, and people with diseases that require blood transfusion. However, according to statistics from the Ministry of Health, our country has only met about 54% of blood needs for treatment, so there is still a situation of blood shortage in many localities.
At the festival, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Nga - Chairman of Thoi Binh Ward People's Committee - said that every year the ward has deployed and effectively implemented voluntary blood donation programs. From January 2024 to February 2025, the ward has mobilized 585/558 units of blood, reaching 104.83% of the target assigned by the district.
To reach the 2025 target of 726 units of blood, Ms. Nga suggested that the police, military, cadres, members, civil servants, and workers of the ward continue to participate in blood donation programs.
After nearly 4 hours, the program collected nearly 150 units of blood. On this occasion, the organizing committee presented 20 gifts to poor and near-poor households in Thoi Binh ward (Ninh Kieu district).
