On January 28, information from the Khanh Hoa Department of Health said that the Department had just sent an urgent document to health units on strengthening supervision, prevention and control of epidemics caused by the Nipah virus.
Accordingly, implementing Official Dispatch No. 112/PB-BTN dated January 27, 2026 of the Department of Disease Prevention (Ministry of Health), in the period from December 27, 2025 to January 27, 2026, India recorded 5 suspected cases of Nipah virus infection. Among them, 2 cases were confirmed to have occurred at a hospital in West Bengal state.
Faced with the above situation, the Department of Health requested the Provincial Center for Disease Control to preside over and strengthen epidemic surveillance in the community and medical facilities; closely monitor the developments of epidemics domestically and internationally, and promptly advise on appropriate response measures.
At the same time, organize early detection, investigation, and thorough handling of suspicious cases; carry out sampling, preservation, transportation and sending samples for testing in accordance with regulations.
In addition, the Provincial Center for Disease Control is responsible for advising on building and implementing a plan to prevent and control the Nipah virus epidemic in the area.
Organize training and professional guidance for health workers at all levels and coordinate with media agencies to promote propaganda and raise people's awareness about epidemic prevention and control.
The Department of Health also requested the Khanh Hoa International Health Quarantine Center to develop a plan to prevent and control Nipah virus epidemics at border gates.
Strengthen medical surveillance for immigrants, especially those who come or pass through countries and regions with recorded cases.
Organize screening, early detection of suspicious cases and coordinate timely handling according to regulations, while ensuring full human resources, equipment, supplies and personal protective equipment.
For medical examination and treatment facilities in the province, the Department of Health requests to strengthen supervision, early detection, isolation, absorption, treatment and timely reporting of suspected cases of illness.
At the same time, strictly implement regulations on infection control and prepare response plans in case of recorded cases.
Units in the health sector are required to strictly implement the regime of information and reporting of infectious diseases according to regulations; report regularly, periodically and unexpectedly for cases suspected or determined to be infected with the Nipah virus.
