Golden thrombocytopenic bacteria attack the skin through small scratches
3 days before the visit to MEDLATEC General Hospital, male patient N.T.H (41 years old, Hanoi) showed symptoms of swelling and pain, redness in the left cheek area, accompanied by a mild fever. Symptoms tend to increase gradually, causing discomfort when opening the mouth, chewing difficulty. It is known that Mr. H. had a small scratch in this area before.
At the hospital, the patient's blood test showed a very high CRP index - a sign of severe infection. The results of the inflammatory epidemic culture were positive for staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
The ultrasound image of the subcutaneous software corresponding to the location of the lesion on the clinic shows that the left cheek area has a hearing loss organization of 38x17mm, surrounded by edema, fat thickness, and fluid deposition.
The doctor diagnosed the patient with left cheek cellulose inflammation, caused by yellow platelets, and needed to be hospitalized for timely treatment.
MSc. Dr. Pham Duy Hung - Deputy Head of Internal Medicine Department, Medlatec General Hospital shared about the case: "The cause of skin infections in patients is the invasion of yellow platelectomic bacteria through open wounds. To effectively treat the disease, the patient was given blood culture to be tested for antibiotics, helping the doctor choose the right type of antibiotic. If there is a delay in diagnosis and treatment, it can lead to sepsis, necrosis of the damaged skin area...".
The patient was promptly injected with a duct and given infectional drainage. After 7 days of inpatient treatment, taking antibiotics according to the regimen, the blood culture results were negative. Mr. H. had no fever, was less swollen, opened his mouth and chewed well.
Don't be subjective with small wounds
The skin layer plays a role in protecting the body from external harmful agents. Damaged skin creates conditions for bacteria to enter the body and cause disease.
These bacteria are often harmless on the skin, nose, and throat, and can enter the body through damaged areas such as cuts and scratches, leading to infections. The most common condition is people with group A interstitial and yellow blood cell confusion, causing cellulitis.
MSc. Dr. Pham Duy Hung said: When there are scratches on the body, patients often have a subjective attitude, considering it as just a simple skin wound. When there are signs of swelling, patients have the habit of arbitrarily buying antibiotics at the pharmacy without a prescription. Even when the doctor ordered him to be hospitalized for treatment, the patient still did not comply and chose to be treated at home.
The doctor emphasized that all such subjectivity can cause cellulitis, leading to serious complications of the disease such as sepsis, septic shock, necrosis of damaged skin, having to remove related organs, threatening the patient's life.
