On November 4, Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital announced that the unit received and successfully treated a case of stomach tumor using endoscopic gastrectomy surgery.
According to the hospital, Mr. D.V.H (67 years old, Tran De district, Soc Trang province) came to the hospital for treatment in a state of weight loss, losing about 15kg in 3 months, poor appetite, bloating, nausea. The patient had a history of tuberculosis treatment 10 years ago.
Through examination and necessary paraclinical tests, the results of abdominal computed tomography (MSCT) showed that the stomach was dilated, with a lot of fluid retention and the duodenum collapsed. After consultation, the doctors diagnosed the patient with gastric stenosis, hourglass-shaped stricture and treated him with endoscopic resection of 2/3 of the stomach.
The surgery lasted 2 hours and was successful. After 10 days of intensive treatment, the patient recovered and was discharged for outpatient follow-up. Pathology results showed chronic duodenal ulcer.
As the main surgeon of the operation, Master, Doctor Nguyen Huu Ky Phuong - Deputy Head of the Department of Gastroenterology (Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital) informed that laparoscopic surgery to remove 2/3 of the stomach is a routine gastrointestinal surgical intervention method used to treat stomach cancer, benign tumors, stomach ulcers, stomach perforation or obesity.
MSc. Dr. Nguyen Huu Ky Phuong said that this is a modern surgical method, requiring a highly specialized and experienced surgical team. The advantages of this method are minimally invasive intervention, safety with small incisions, low complication rate (low rate of complications of anastomosis, intestinal obstruction, hernia after surgery), high post-operative recovery efficiency, saving hospital costs for patients.
