On July 1, Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital said that the unit's doctors had just successfully performed surgery, completely removing a right ovarian tumor with a size of about 40 x 30cm, weighing nearly 5kg for a 59-year-old female patient, residing in Con Tien commune.
According to information from the hospital, the patient was admitted to the hospital in a state of pain in many areas of the left hip spreading down the lower abdomen. Medical history investigation showed that from about July 2025, the patient noticed that his abdomen was getting bigger and bigger but thought it was a normal change, so he did not go for examination. Only when the pain gradually increased, did the patient go to a medical facility for examination.

Through clinical examination, tests and computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen - pelvis, doctors of the Obstetrics Department discovered a very large tumor, suspected to originate from the right ovary and indicated surgery.
According to the treatment team, this is a highly difficult surgery because the tumor developed with a large size, occupying almost the entire abdominal cavity. The goal of the surgery is to remove the entire tumor, avoid breaking it to limit the risk of cell spread if the tumor has malignant nature, and at the same time preserve the surrounding organs to the maximum.
After consultation, doctors performed open abdominal surgery and completely removed the tumor weighing about 5kg. Postoperative examination showed that the remaining appendages, ureter, large connective membrane and organs in the abdominal cavity did not record any abnormalities.

The specimen was sent for pathological analysis to determine the nature of the tumor. After 6 hours of surgery, the patient was awake, vital signs were stable and showed a clear feeling of lightness in the abdomen.
Doctors recommend that women, especially middle-aged and postmenopausal women, need to see a doctor early when signs such as abnormal abdominal enlargement, prolonged abdominal pain or tension appear to be detected and treated promptly.
