Can Tho - To prevent and control rabies, the city (TP) is implementing a series of solutions, aiming to manage over 90% of households raising dogs and cats.

Can Tho City People's Committee has just issued a Plan for rabies prevention and control, phase 2026 - 2030 in Can Tho City.

Striving to have no deaths from rabies by 2030, Can Tho City functional sectors set a target to manage over 90% of dog and cat households and the number of dogs and cats raised in the period 2026 - 2030.

Implement rabies vaccination for 80% of the total number of dogs and cats raised in the period 2026 - 2030; over 90% of communes and wards monitor dogs and cats infected and suspected of having rabies; successfully build at least 05 rabies safety zones at commune and ward levels.

Regarding rabies prevention and control in humans, 100% of communes and wards have rabies vaccination points; 100% of communes and wards implement risk communication and raise awareness about rabies in the community and schools; 90% of people exposed to rabies are treated for post-exposure prophylaxis;...

Investigating, responding to, and handling rabies outbreaks, Can Tho City People's Committee requests dog and cat owners to be responsible for reporting and providing accurate information to local authorities, veterinary and medical staff as soon as animals are found to be sick, suspected of being sick, or dying from rabies; isolate and monitor animals showing signs of suspected rabies, and destroy rabies-infected animals according to the guidance of the City Sub-Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine.

Can Tho City also strictly prohibits the purchase, sale, slaughter, and use of animal products suspected of having rabies; do not throw animal carcasses into the environment; implement sanitation, disinfection, sterilization, and mandatory destruction of animals suspected of having the disease, suffering from the disease, or dying from rabies.
