On January 3, the Hai Phong Department of Health informed about the case of 2 deaths after lunch at a family in Nam Hai ward, Hai An district, Hai Phong city.
According to initial information, the incident occurred at house number 359/369 Nam Hai street, group 6, Nam Hai ward, Hai An district, Hai Phong city.
According to Mr. Tran Nguyen Duy A, the nephew of the two victims, at noon on December 31, the whole family of 5 people ate, including Mrs. Tran Thi C (born in 1960); Mr. Tran Ngoc L (born in 1988 - son of Mrs. C) and 3 grandchildren (including Tran Nguyen Duy A, born in 2003 and 2 other younger grandchildren).

For lunch that day, Mrs. C cooked white rice, chrysanthemum soup, fried eggs and meat, and bought some braised fish from a ready-made store to bring home (the family didn't know where Mrs. C bought it).
That afternoon, the two children chose to eat instant noodles; Duy A ate white rice and fried eggs and meat. He did not eat at the same table as Mrs. C and Mr. L, so it is not clear what Mrs. C and Mr. L ate.
About 1-2 hours after lunch, Mrs. C and Mr. L had chest pain, difficulty breathing, and vomiting, so Duy A took Mrs. C and her son to a private medical clinic near their home.
Here, Mrs. C and Mr. L received first aid but their illnesses worsened so they were transferred to the Vietnam Maritime Medicine Hospital.
At the Vietnam Institute of Marine Medicine, two patients were diagnosed with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest of unknown cause; the bodies were then handed over to the police for investigation to determine the cause.
On January 2, the bodies of the two people were received by their families for burial.
According to local authorities, since receiving information about the two deaths, Hai Phong City has not received information about any cases showing similar poisoning symptoms.
Previously, after receiving information about two deaths after lunch, the Hai Phong Department of Health directed the Food Safety and Hygiene Department to verify information related to the above incident.
On January 2, at Nam Hai Ward Health Station, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department worked with relevant units regarding the above incident.
The Department of Health also requested professional units to coordinate with the Hai An District Health Department, Nam Hai Ward People's Committee, and the Ward Health Station to continue reviewing and grasping information about the incident, as well as information related to food safety in the area.
The police are currently investigating the case to determine the cause of death of Ms. C and her son.
