Besides the achievements, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long pointed out some shortcomings and limitations of the health sector such as: Basic health indicators, access to health services are still uneven between regions, localities. Primary healthcare does not provide adequate primary health care services. Disease prevention, health improvement, and food safety assurance are still limited. Hospital governance is still inadequate.
There is no mechanism or policy strong enough to mobilize resources for health development, especially private healthcare. Some cases of law violations, abuse, and profiteering in medical examination and treatment, pharmaceuticals, and food cause public outrage. The application of information technology and digital transformation in healthcare is still slow.
The replacement fertility rate nationwide is not really solid; gender imbalance at birth is still high; there are no synchronous, comprehensive, and effective solutions to promote the advantages of the "golden population" period.
