On June 24, Hue Central Hospital announced that it had successfully performed surgery to replace the hip joint and thigh bone with Mega prosthesis - an in-depth technique for joint conservation for patients in the field of Orthopedic trauma surgery.
The patient is Ms. P.T.X, 71 years old, residing in An Cuu ward (Thuan Hoa district, Hue city), with a history of artificial hip replacement 17 years ago and had surgery for loose joints a year ago.
For more than 4 months, the patient has had increased pain when walking, had to use a support stick, had difficulty moving and had poor quality of life.
Through examination and imaging diagnosis, doctors recorded widespread bone spurs, fractures around the artificial diaphragm joint, fractures of the vehicle combined with bones, deviation of axis and shortening of limbs over 7cm - a severe and complex lesion, with the risk of loss of limb function if not intervened promptly.

At Hue Central Hospital, the patient was indicated for surgery to replace the groin joint and more than half of the thigh bone with Mega prosthesis.
After nearly 4 hours with maximum support of human resources and modern equipment, the surgery was successful, restoring limb structure and function, and restoring equal length of both legs.
After surgery, the patient recovered well, was able to stand on his own and began the rehabilitation exercise.
According to Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep - Director of Hue Central Hospital: Mega prosthesis is a complex technique, requiring high professional qualifications and maximum coordination between specialties: joint surgery, anesthesia resuscitation, imaging diagnosis and rehabilitation, to ensure accuracy and thoroughness in cutting and assembling artificial culture. Mega prosthesis technique is considered the optimal solution for severe damage cases that were previously at high risk of having to amputate the limb.
Basically, in Vietnam, spending is only conserved for people with bone cancer by biological methods ( bone grafting, bone cal extension according to the Ilizarov principle...), with Mega prosthesis technique, the biggest advantage is that patients can walk and exercise immediately after surgery, instead of having to spend more than 1 year wearing frames and wrap wrapping organs compared to the old method.
Currently, in Vietnam, there are a few large hospitals in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City implementing this technique. Hue Central Hospital is the first Hospital in the Central - Central Highlands region to effectively implement Mega prosthesis technique.
