Son Tay General Hospital is the 18th public hospital in Hanoi to deploy an electronic medical record system to serve medical examination and treatment. This is a Grade II general hospital under the Hanoi Department of Health, with a scale of 440 planned beds, 446 practical beds, including 24 departments and 5 functional rooms, with a total workforce of more than 400 staff and employees. Every day, Son Tay General Hospital receives an average of more than 500 outpatient visits and inpatient treatment for about 300 patients.
In recent times, Son Tay General Hospital has gradually modernized its technical infrastructure and digitized the medical examination and treatment process such as: Deploying a medical image storage and transmission system (PACS), completing the digitalization of subsystems according to the provisions of Circular 54/2017/TT-BYT; proactively upgrading technical infrastructure to meet the criteria of Circular 54; Deploying registration for medical examination and treatment using citizen identification cards according to Project 06 of the Government and integrating cashless payments...
Most recently, on May 1, 2025, Son Tay General Hospital proactively piloted the implementation of electronic medical records for the entire hospital and developed a Project to deploy electronic medical records, period 2025-2027.

At the conference, representatives of Son Tay General Hospital reported the results of implementing electronic medical records according to Circular No. 54/2017/TT-BYT, Circular No. 46/2018/TT-BYT and Circular No. 13/2025/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health.
The electronic medical records consulting council conducted a field survey of information technology infrastructure, testing HIS, LIS, RIS, PACS systems in a number of clinical and paraclinical departments. Through the survey, the information technology system of Son Tay General Hospital fully meets the conditions for implementing electronic medical records. The Council unanimously voted to recognize the hospital as eligible to completely replace the paper hospital.
Speaking at the conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quy Tuong - Chairman of the Vietnam Medical Informatics Association, Chairman of the Professional Council - affirmed that the implementation of electronic medical records is an inevitable and extremely necessary trend in the digital transformation roadmap of the health sector. Son Tay General Hospital has synchronously deployed important components, in which the server room system is fully equipped with equipment and software to meet the requirements of implementing electronic medical records.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quy Tuong emphasized the role of upgrading information technology infrastructure, especially balancing the entire system, improving software, and adding smart kiosks to serve the reception of patients. The hospital needs to continue to equip all doctors with digital signatures, and at the same time issue a process for managing and using digital signatures in accordance with regulations.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quy Tuong also noted that the hospital needs to perfect plans to ensure information security, avoid data loss, deploy clinical warning software in the field of pharmacy and medical examination and treatment, and gradually apply artificial intelligence to improve treatment quality and effectiveness.
