After the merger, Can Tho City has 48 public health non-business units (a decrease of 22 units compared to before the merger). Of which, 22 general and specialized hospitals; 5 specialized centers, 1 general hospital and 20 regional health centers.
103 health stations in the area have been transferred and are public non-business units under the People's Committees of communes and wards, in accordance with the 2-level local government model.

In Can Tho City, the Cai Rang Regional Medical Center (TTYT) was established on the basis of merging 2 units: Cai Rang District TTYT and Phong Dien District TTYT.
The summary report for 2025 shows that outpatient medical examination and treatment activities tend to increase compared to the same period. The satisfaction rate of people reached more than 90%. Notably, this TTYT has effectively implemented AI-based cervical cancer screening technology, as an important step forward in grassroots healthcare.
Dr. Truong Ty, Director of Cai Rang Regional TTYT shared: "Thanks to the support from the Can Tho Department of Health and technology partners, the unit has approached, trained and quickly mastered this technique. To date, the team of doctors and nurses has been able to operate independently, making AI a powerful support tool in cervical cancer screening.

However, it is known that at this facility, there are still some concerning issues such as degraded infrastructure, lack of investment in digital transformation, upgrades, and repairs. Along with that are changes in organization, human resources and operating procedures, which are objective factors affecting reception and treatment work.
In fact, this is a common situation in many grassroots health facilities in Can Tho City. At health stations, most equipment has been damaged; for medicine, most items are not diverse.
From May 2026, the survey delegation of the Can Tho City People's Council also had a working session on the operating situation at grassroots health facilities and hospitals, listening to recommendations on investment and synchronous re-planning.
Most recently, at the meeting to implement Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW dated September 9, 2025 of the Politburo on a number of breakthrough solutions to strengthen the protection, care and improvement of people's health in Can Tho City (June 4, 2026), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Quoc Cuong, Director of Can Tho City Department of Health - informed that healthcare still faces other difficulties such as information technology infrastructure is still lacking, not synchronized; lack of information technology human resources to meet the requirements of comprehensive digital transformation of the industry.

On that basis, the Can Tho Department of Health proposed to prioritize and increase budget spending for the health sector; pay attention to investing in digital infrastructure; supplement resources to serve administrative reform and digital transformation.
Along with that is to soon invest in facilities and equipment for health stations; allow piloting ordering health care packages for people. Because, in the future, health stations must operate like a general clinic, with full professional rooms, equipment, human resources, job positions,...
The Department of Health has developed a plan and implemented the organization of periodic health check-ups and free screening for social protection beneficiaries, the elderly and women in 2 phases in 14 communes and wards in the area.
