Recently, actress Hwang Jung Eum's management company, Y.ONE Entertainment, announced: "As of May 26, 2025, Hwang Jung Eum's divorce has been concluded peacefully with the court's decision. The divorce is now legally complete.
This comes after reports that businessman Lee Young Don had filed a request for confiscation of assets against Hwang Jung Eum related to real estate worth about 1.8 billion won.
Lee's steel processing company, Geoam Core, filed a lawsuit in March to recover a loan of 157 million won and then requested a temporary seizure of a building in Seongnae-dong, Seoul, owned by Hwang Jung Eum.
In response, the actress's company explained: "Investment confiscation is part of the process of dividing marital assets after divorce. Both sides have taken measures to preserve each other's assets.
This is a common procedure in divorces. Because the legal process has now been completed, the confiscation will be lifted".
Actress Hwang Jung Eum and Lee Young Don - a former professional golfer who turned businessman, got married in 2016 and had 2 sons.
They initially filed for divorce in 2020 but were reconciled soon after. However, in early 2024, the couple announced their complete separation.
Meanwhile, the star of the movie "Beautiful Sister" is also facing a trial for the crime of squanderry related to a private company in which she owns 100% of shares.
Hwang Jung Eum was accused of receiving a deposit of 700 million won from the company in 2022 and using this money to invest in virtual currency (criptone). She was charged with un detaining a total of VND4.34 billion as of December 2022, of which VND4.2 billion is believed to have been invested in virtual currency assets.
During the hearing on May 15, Hwang Jung Eum admitted the allegations. However, the actress's representative's lawyer explained: "Hwang Jung Eum invested in virtual currency with the intention of developing the company.
Because the company's legal entity could not directly own the cryptocurrency, she temporarily invested under her personal name, which led to the crime.
The lawyer hopes the court will consider Hwang Jung Eum's circumstances and motives for the crime, because "all profits of the company come from the defendant's activities, so in essence, that property belongs to the defendant".
The actress has sold a portion of virtual currency to remedy the damage and plans to sell real estate to return the rest.
Hwang Jung Eum's management company expressed regret for causing public concern and pledged to make efforts to end the legal case as soon as possible.
