The round of selecting 3 more tennis players to the Vietnam tennis team for the Davis Cup Group III in the Asia/Pacific region took place from June 9 to 15 at the AP Sports club tennis court, Ho Chi Minh City.
The selection round has gathered 7 potential young players, competing for the last 3 spots to join the official squad to compete in the Davis Cup Group III.
After exciting, fair and fierce matches, the 3 best players have been selected for the official squad, including: Pham La Hoang Anh (Hai Dang Tay Ninh Club) - 18 years old with 5 wins; tennis player Dinh Viet Tuan Minh (HCMC) - 20 years old with 4 wins, 1 loss, and tennis player Nguyen Minh Phat (AP Sports Club) - 18 years old with 4 wins, 1 loss.
With the above results, the coaching staff of the Vietnamese tennis team has had two official singles positions for positions 3 and 4, namely Pham La Hoang Anh and Dinh Viet Tuan Minh. The final doubles position was chosen by the coaching staff as athlete Nguyen Minh Phat because he had the best doubles performance among the remaining athletes.
The three players will join Nguyen Van Phuong (Army) and Vu Ha Minh Duc (AP Sports), forming the Vietnamese tennis team for the Davis Cup Group III - Asia/Pacific region, taking place from July 14 to 19, 2025 at Hanaka Paris Ocean Park, Bac Ninh.
"This year's Davis Cup Group III selection round not only reflects the professionalism and seriousness in the selection of the force but also shows the clear maturity of young Vietnamese players. We believe that with the current squad, the national team has every basis to expect a successful Davis Cup.
VTF will continue to apply this form of selection competition to all teams in all age groups in the coming time, added Mr. Nguyen Hong Son - Vice President and General Secretary of VTF.
It is expected that the Vietnamese Davis Cup team will focus on participating in the training session from June 22 to July 13 in Ho Chi Minh City and Tu Son, Bac Ninh to prepare for the tournament.
The Davis Cup Group III is a prestigious arena of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), where national teams compete for a ticket to the group II.
Completing the squad to compete through the qualifying round not only ensures competitiveness but is also a necessary professional preparation step to move towards the Vietnamese tennis team's immediate goal of staying in the league, while striving to compete for a place in the group II play-offs in 2026.
At the results announcement ceremony, in order to recognize the competitive efforts and dedication of the Head Coach, athletes, and referee teams, VTF awarded certificates and meaningful gifts as a thank you and encouragement to continue trying in the journey ahead.
In this event, VTF in collaboration with AP Sports Club successfully organized the Signing Ceremony for the cooperation in organizing two professional tennis tournaments VTF Pro Tour 100 and VTF Pro Tour 200 which will take place in August 2025. This is a good sign for Vietnamese professional tennis as the number of professional tournaments increases with the support and cooperation of sponsors.
