After the success of the first season, Netflix's dating program "Better late than single 2" quickly attracted attention when it returned.
Right in the first week of release, the program ranked 8th in the Top 10 non-English TV shows globally with 1.5 million views, an increase of about 130% compared to the previous season. Unpredictable developments in the love affairs of the contestants also continuously became topics of discussion.
Unlike many regular dating shows, "Late is better than being single" focuses on people who have never been in love, recording their journey of changing their appearance, overcoming clumsiness and learning to open up to the other person.
In season 2, the crew still maintained the formula that created the success of the first season when prioritizing exploiting true emotions instead of promoting dramatic situations. However, besides the positive effects, season two also continuously faced many mixed opinions.
One of the biggest controversies is that the players are made up and styled quite similarly, making each person's personality fade. Some players, including Kim Jae Seo (game developer), are mistaken for their profession because their appearance is too meticulously cared for.
In recent episodes, the program continues to cause controversy because of Kim Jae Seo's behavior during a date with Jeon Seo Yoon - a girl known as a fan of the NCT Dream group.
The male contestant said that this could be Seo Yoon's last date in the program, implying that no one would choose her anymore. Although later explaining that he only wanted the other person to have less expectations and feel more comfortable, this statement was still judged as lacking sophistication, especially when Seo Yoon had never had a romantic relationship.
The situation quickly became a topic of discussion. Many people expressed sympathy for Seo Yoon, even humorously calling for NCT Dream to return to operation soon so that the female contestant "does not have to continue dating people who hurt her".
However, there are still opinions that these controversies partly reflect the true spirit of the program. Because the contestants have never been in love, it is understandable that they lack experience, are confused or have clumsy statements.
This is also the difference that helps "Late is better than Silent 2" continue to attract the attention of the audience, despite going hand in hand with many opposing opinions.
