Farmers suffer heavy losses due to garden destruction
Mr. Vu Dinh Dung's family, in Tan Thanh commune, Lam Ha district (Lam Dong), has just had hundreds of passion fruit trees cut down by thieves during their commercial period, causing huge economic losses.
Mr. Dung said: "On the evening of September 19, my family had 325 passion fruit trees that were being harvested cut across by thieves. Through calculations, the family estimated the total damage to be about 400 million VND."
"Looking at the passion fruit garden being cut down and unable to be restored, my wife and I couldn't eat because we felt sorry for the money and the effort we put into taking care of it and growing it," Mr. Dung worriedly said.
Not far from where Mr. Dung lives, the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, in Hoai Duc commune, Lam Ha district (Lam Dong) also had 11 plots of ginger, more than 1.5 tons, stolen by thieves, with an estimated loss of nearly 20 million VND.
In Dak Lak province, on October 1, Mr. Luu Tan Van visited a durian garden in Krong Ana district (Dak Lak province) and discovered that 33 durian trees, aged 3 to 8 years old, had their tops chopped off and their roots chopped off by thieves. The incident caused his family about 350 million VND in damage.
"The fact that thieves are destroying our crops like this makes our family extremely frustrated," Mr. Van said bitterly.
Strengthening security and order
Faced with this pressing situation, the police of districts in Lam Dong province have coordinated with the authorities of communes and towns to build a model of self-managed security and order teams. These self-managed teams are built on the basis of taking the regular police force and police officers in communes and towns as the core and mobilizing people to voluntarily participate.
Thereby, helping people raise their vigilance, promote collective strength to prevent and fight crimes to protect family and neighbor property. This model is especially successful in Da Huoai district.
In Dak Lak province, the above model is also being implemented in the durian capital - Krong Pak district.
Lieutenant Colonel Kieu Manh Hung - Head of the District Police - shared: "The district is the locality with the largest durian growing area in Dak Lak province. For more than 3 years, the functional forces have organized a self-management model in the villages and hamlets in the area. Accordingly, farmers have proactively linked together to protect their agricultural products, and when needed, the local police force will proactively intervene to support."
According to Lieutenant Colonel Hung, although this method is not new, its implementation is not easy and must be done methodically.
Colonel Tran Quang Hieu - Deputy Director of Dak Lak Provincial Police - informed that the provincial police forces have recently proactively grasped the situation, coordinated with departments and branches to strengthen State management of economic security. Especially, related to growing area codes, packaging facility codes and commercial fraud activities.
Dak Lak Provincial Police proactively detect and combat illegal activities related to the agricultural sector, detect and combat, and strictly handle subjects who steal durian. The unit also strengthens State management of immigration and traffic activities to ensure security and order in the areas.
