Demolishment of 51 Huynh Thuc Khang apartment building after 35 years
Apartment building 51 Huynh Thuc Khang, Lang ward, Hanoi was built in 1991, consisting of 5 floors divided into two blocks with a total of 42 apartments. In March 2011, block 1 partially collapsed due to house number 49 next door collapsing. At that time, 19 households were relocated to temporary residence at building B9 Dai Kim (Dinh Cong ward). The remaining 23 households are still living in the apartment building, and have now been relocated and temporarily residing in area NO6 - Urban Service Management and Exploitation Enterprise (Tran Dang Ninh street, Cau Giay ward).
After 15 years, people, authorities and investors have agreed to implement the project to invest in renovating and rebuilding apartment building No. 51 Huynh Thuc Khang on an area of 1,200m2. The project has 13 above-ground floors, technical attic and 5 basements, with a total construction floor area of over 17,000m2.
According to Lao Dong's records, apartment building 51 Huynh Thuc Khang is currently in the process of demolition, starting the renovation and reconstruction process. According to the building security guard, functional forces have started demolishing the area inside this apartment building.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hong, a resident living in the 51 Huynh Thuc Khang apartment complex, said that most of the households that have moved out hope that the project will be implemented soon so that people can return to stable life in the place they used to be attached to.
Ms. Nguyen The Lu (temporarily residing at B9 Dai Kim) said that apartment building 51 Huynh Thuc Khang was built to be allocated to officials and employees, including her after many years of work. According to Ms. Lu, the apartment at 51 Huynh Thuc Khang is an asset associated with the working process of many officials and employees. Therefore, the biggest wish of the households is to soon return to their old residence after being rebuilt spaciously and legally.
Finalizing the completion time of apartment building 51 Huynh Thuc Khang
Talking to a reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Ha Phu Binh - Vice Chairman of Lang Ward People's Committee - said that in the past time, leaders and competent units have drastically mobilized people to relocate from apartment building 51 Huynh Thuc Khang. Up to now, all 42/42 households have agreed to hand over the land.
On that basis, the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) of Lang ward organized visits and encouragement to households in temporary residences, and at the same time sent thanks to people for supporting the government and investors in the process of implementing the project to renovate and rebuild old apartment buildings.
Regarding the project progress, Mr. Binh said that the project has been approved by the city. The Ward People's Committee requested the investor to urgently complete the procedures after receiving the site, striving to start construction in July 2026 according to the plan; it is expected to be completed and handed over houses by 2027 for people to return to resettle at 51 Huynh Thuc Khang.
Also according to Mr. Binh, to create consensus, Lang Ward People's Committee has implemented public and transparent regimes and policies; and at the same time strengthened dialogue and explanation to help people understand the policy of renovating old apartment buildings according to current regulations, thereby supporting urban reconstruction in the area.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuong - Deputy Director of Bach Khoa Investment and Development Joint Stock Company - the project investor informed that with the remaining time of about a year and a half, the unit will make efforts to accelerate the progress so that the project can be completed soon, helping households stabilize their lives in new residences.
