Ho Chi Minh City - Gia Dinh Ward is the first locality to complete 100% of the site handover for the Xuyen Tam canal renovation project.

On June 25, Gia Dinh Ward People's Committee said that it had completed the handover of land to serve the project of dredging, improving the environment, and building Xuyen Tam canal infrastructure in accordance with the direction of the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee before June 30, 2026.

The Xuyen Tam canal renovation project has a total length of nearly 9 km, passing through Gia Dinh, Binh Thanh, Binh Loi Trung and An Nhon wards.

This is one of the largest urban embellishment projects in Ho Chi Minh City today with a total investment of more than 17,000 billion VND, of which compensation, support and resettlement costs account for about 14,000 billion VND.

To implement the project, the city must recover land from 2,190 cases, including 1,293 cases of full clearance and 897 cases of partial clearance.

In Gia Dinh ward alone, there are 869 affected cases, including 606 cases of full clearance and 263 cases of partial clearance.

According to Gia Dinh Ward People's Committee, thanks to the drastic involvement of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, all households subject to clearance have agreed to hand over land to implement the project.

By June 25, all 869/869 cases had completed handover, reaching a rate of 100%.

Not only completing site clearance early, the locality also focused on resolving petitions and complaints related to the project.

To date, Gia Dinh Ward People's Committee has received 213 petitions and complaints. Of which, 103 cases are petitions, 72 cases have been resolved and responded to, and the remaining 31 cases are being further considered for handling.

For 110 first-time complaints, the locality has resolved 106 cases. Currently, 2 cases have been scheduled for dialogue on June 25 and 2 other cases are continuing to be resolved.

Regarding the second-time complaint dossiers, there are currently 11 cases being considered by the City Inspectorate. Among them, 1 case has been issued a resolution decision by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, maintaining the first-time complaint resolution results of the Chairman of Gia Dinh Ward People's Committee; the remaining 10 cases are being further processed.

In addition, there are 3 cases being sued in court. Gia Dinh Ward People's Committee said that it has fully implemented procedural participation procedures and provided dossiers as requested by the adjudicating agency.

In parallel with site clearance work, the locality also implements many activities to support households in difficult circumstances affected by the project.

The Ward People's Committee has requested the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward to support 36 cases with a compensation and support level of 0 VND and 25 households in difficult circumstances. Each case is supported with 5 million VND.

On June 19, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Gia Dinh ward organized a program to care for households affected by the project, awarding support of 220 million VND to 44 households. In general, through many phases, 58 households have been supported with a total budget of 290 million VND.

In addition, the locality also mobilized social resources to support an additional 50 million VND for a household in particularly difficult circumstances.

The Xuyen Tam canal renovation project includes items: dredging the canal bed 3.5 m deep, expanding the canal bed from 20 - 30 m, building a synchronous wastewater and rainwater collection system.

On both sides of the canal, a 6 m wide traffic road (two lanes on each side), a 3 - 4 m wide sidewalk and a system of parks and green trees will be built.

The entire project is expected to be completed in 2028, not only improving the environment, forming drainage systems, canal roads and parks, but also opening up public spaces, contributing to changing the face of Ho Chi Minh City's inner city.
