Do not let thousands of hectares of land be wasted
Since 2008, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has converted more than 50,000 hectares of poor forest to rubber cultivation. This is a large-scale project in the Central Highlands region. However, according to statistics, only 7,884 hectares (accounting for 30.9% of the planted area) have developed normally.
The remaining area is increasingly facing death and underdevelopment, in 2018 it is 12,039ha, in 2022 it is 16,364ha and by 2025 it will reach 17,651ha.
In the period 2007-2014, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee allocated land to 16 enterprises to implement 44 projects under the Program to convert poor forests to rubber plantations.
For many years, businesses have been struggling with thousands of hectares of vacant rubber land, land is increasingly deserted, posing a risk of waste. In May 2026, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee - requested businesses to urgently build and report on conversion plans for dead and underdeveloped rubber areas.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested businesses to be honest and fully report on the feasibility of the conversion project; absolutely not to buy, sell, or transfer the project.
Land planning for livestock and energy
To have appropriate directions and land use plans, many businesses propose that the Gia Lai provincial government allow the conversion of rubber land to land for animal husbandry, renewable energy and cultivation.
