According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Project Management Board, the Suoi Cai dredging and reinforcement project, the section from Tho Ut bridge to Dong Nai river, includes 10 bidding packages for the canal construction, works on the canal and 3 bidding packages for electricity relocation. To date, bidding packages 2A, 2B have been basically completed, and the entire project is expected to be completed in 2026.
However, currently, some bidding packages are still slow compared to the signed contracts. The main reason for the delay is difficulties in site clearance. Currently, 33 households have not yet handed over clean land. Households also petitioned about land compensation prices, resettlement policies, or disputes over land origin.

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Project Management Board said that it will continue to closely coordinate with the People's Committees of localities to synchronously deploy site clearance work. Urge communes and wards to urgently mobilize and directly dialogue with people. Request the Land Fund Development Center to accelerate the completion of compensation procedures, completing them before June 15.
In case households still do not hand over land despite many mobilizations, functional agencies will complete administrative procedures and organize land recovery coercion. It is expected to focus on completing it before June 15 and the most complex households will be completed in August 2026.
It is known that the above project has a length of nearly 19km, with a total investment of nearly 5,900 billion VND from the central and Ho Chi Minh City budgets. This is a key level II project to ensure drainage of rainwater and treated wastewater for a basin area of 22,503 ha.

Responding to heavy rain
According to records, currently, Ho Chi Minh City is experiencing heavy rains continuously. Water from upstream flowing to Suoi Cai seriously affects the construction progress under the stream bed.

Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Project Management Board has requested contractors to take advantage of favorable weather, increase manpower, machinery and equipment, and organize "3 shifts, 4 crews" to compensate for the delayed progress. At the same time, proactively prepare technical plans to guide the flow, arrange more large-capacity pumps to promptly pump dry the foundation pits, clean the enclosure frame, and drain water immediately when there is heavy rain, minimizing the time of construction interruption.
