Compared to some other urban areas in the Northwest region, land prices in Lao Cai province are often higher than the average. This situation makes it very difficult for low-income workers with limited financial savings to settle down.
Meanwhile, this mountainous province has 3 industrial parks and 6 industrial clusters with more than 7,500 workers with an average income of 6-10 million VND/person/month.
Faced with the increasing demand for housing for workers, civil servants, and low- and middle-income laborers, Lao Cai province has planned 6 social housing projects with 4,600 units, located near urban sub-area projects and commercial housing.
Currently, Lao Cai city is implementing a social housing project on the left bank of the Red River, Van Hoa commune with 760 apartments and has found an investor for a social housing project in the residential area adjacent to B6 extension, Bac Lenh ward with 2,192 apartments.
On November 12, according to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper at the social housing project on the left bank of the Red River, the outside is surrounded by corrugated iron, inside the construction site, workers and many large capacity machines are being mobilized to serve the construction process.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nam (worker at Dong Pho Moi Industrial Park) said: “Our workers have low income, only about 5-6 million VND/month, so buying land or building a house is very difficult. Therefore, we are looking forward to this project being completed soon so that many workers can buy a house with an affordable budget to stabilize their lives.”
According to people living near the social housing project on the left bank of the Red River, the new project started this year in Van Hoa has attracted the attention of people across the province. Once completed, it will create housing for thousands of low-income workers, especially those from remote districts who come to the city to work.
According to the leader of the Lao Cai Economic Zone Management Board, the Red River Left Bank Social Housing Project is located on an area of 16,608m2, with a scale of 4 blocks of 12-storey buildings, with a floor area of 66,560m2; of which 760 apartments will be built to meet the housing needs of about 1,863 people. The total investment capital is more than 562 billion VND.
Up to now, the Social Housing Project on the left bank of the Red River has completed piling construction of all 4 buildings A1, A2, B1, B2. It is expected to complete the body and fire protection system, and technical infrastructure outside the house in the second and third quarters of 2025. The project will be handed over and put into use in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Mr. Nong Van Quyen, Head of Housing Management and Real Estate Market, Lao Cai Provincial Department of Construction also shared - in order to promptly provide housing needs for low-income people and workers in industrial parks and clusters, and on the other hand, create conditions for people to buy and rent social housing, the Department of Construction is continuing to review locations that have been, are being and are planned for construction to adjust and supplement. The goal is to soon complete the construction of 4,600 social housing units, helping people in the area enjoy social security policies.
