Located at 1 Ly Thai To (Ward 1, District 10, HCMC), the land has an area of over 3.7 hectares and is located between the "golden triangle" of three streets: Ly Thai To, Hung Vuong and Tran Binh Trong.
However, for nearly 10 years, this land has remained quiet, while the surrounding areas have been constantly developing.
According to Lao Dong's records on November 30, within the 3.7-hectare area of the guest house, there are 7 old villas built with 2 or 3 floors, occupying a total area of about 7,000 square meters, mostly gardens with many types of ornamental plants.
Years ago, part of the land was leased out for a restaurant and sports field. However, at present, this place has deteriorated and shows no signs of operation.
Mr. Bay, who works as a security guard for the land, said that for many years the land has been left vacant, with no projects being implemented. He and four other people were hired to take turns guarding it to prevent thieves and drug users from entering.
“Inside the buildings, there is still a lot of furniture that has not been moved, and over time it has gradually deteriorated and become damaged. Every night, I often go around to check," Mr. Bay said.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (residing in District 10) who lives nearby feels sorry that the land is in a beautiful location but for many years no one has come to invest or exploit it. “I often go back and forth to this place and see it fenced off. A large area in the city center is left to waste, losing the urban beauty. I hope to see a new look from this place soon,” Ms. Hoa said.
Explaining the long-term abandonment of the land plot at 1 Ly Thai To Street (District 10), at the working session of the Ho Chi Minh City National Assembly Delegation with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the socio-economic situation in October, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance had official information.
A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance said that this land is the property of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have reached an agreement in reporting to the Ministry of Finance on the transfer of the property to Ho Chi Minh City for management.
According to the plan, the land will be developed into a complex. After completing the transfer procedures from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will make a detailed plan for the project implementation, and has currently assigned specific tasks to relevant units to prepare for the next steps.
