The average housing area nationwide in 2026 is strived to reach about 27 m2 of floor space per person, which is one of the targets set by the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction in the Ministry's Action Program to implement Resolution 01/NQ-CP of the Government on key tasks and solutions to implement the socio-economic development plan and the state budget estimate for 2026.
According to the content of the action program, the goal of increasing the average housing area is one of the key tasks of the construction industry in the coming year.
This indicator is determined based on the total floor area of houses divided by population, reflecting the level of meeting housing needs per capita nationwide.
Along with the goal of reaching 27 m2 of floor space per person, the Ministry of Construction sets a target to complete more than 110,000 social housing units in 2026. This is a group of tasks associated with the requirements of housing development for low-income people, workers, and laborers, contributing to ensuring social security according to the Government's orientation.

In addition, in 2026, the Construction sector also strives to bring the national urbanization rate to about 45%. This target is linked to the development of urban systems, technical infrastructure and social infrastructure, in line with the general socio-economic development goals of the whole country.
The action program of the Ministry of Construction is issued to concretize the tasks and solutions set out by the Government in Resolution 01/NQ-CP. Accordingly, targets on housing, urban areas and real estate market development are identified as important contents that need to be focused on in 2026.
Setting the goal of increasing the average housing area to 27 m2 of floor space/person shows the orientation to continue improving housing conditions, gradually improving the quality of life of people.
At the same time, the target of completing more than 110,000 social housing units also shows the focus on promoting the development of the housing segment to serve real needs, in line with the tasks and solutions for socio-economic development assigned by the Government.
