On the morning of February 6, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee announced the general planning project of Thu Duc City until 2040.
According to the approved plan, by 2030, Thu Duc City is expected to have about 1.8 million people, this number will increase to 2.6 million by 2040 and about 3 million after 2040.
The urban space is divided into 9 development zones, associated with 11 key areas based on the cultural and historical values and specific advantages of each area.
In particular, transport infrastructure is one of the important highlights of the new planning. Thu Duc City will develop 9 urban and inter-regional railway lines, connecting directly with the rest of Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh airport, expected to meet 50-60% of people's travel needs.
Many new routes will be deployed to enhance inter-regional connectivity, including the route connecting Cat Lai - Phu Huu port with Ring Road 3 and Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, and the route connecting Ring Road 2 with Ho Chi Minh City - Chon Thanh Expressway.
In addition to transportation, the planning also focuses on improving the quality of social infrastructure. The land area for urban education will increase nearly 5 times, land for healthcare will increase more than 10 times, land for cultural and sports facilities will increase 3 times, and green parks will reach 1,800 hectares.
In order to concretize the planning and promote investment attraction, at the conference, Thu Duc City granted investment approval decisions for 12 housing development projects in 2024 with a total registered capital of more than 33,000 billion VND.
According to Chairman of Thu Duc City People's Committee Hoang Tung, the city is implementing 535 projects with a total estimated investment capital of more than VND800,000 billion.
These projects will be implemented according to five investment methods: land use rights auction, investor selection bidding, public-private partnership (PPP), other methods according to investment law and public investment capital.
Speaking at the conference, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai emphasized the important role of Thu Duc City in the city's urban development strategy.
Mr. Phan Van Mai requested Thu Duc City to closely coordinate with departments and branches to survey the current status of 9 sub-zones, thereby building a development roadmap suitable for each stage. The sub-zone plans must be completed no later than September 2025.
In addition, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee suggested that Thu Duc City strengthen cooperation with neighboring localities such as Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau to take advantage of common advantages and create momentum for regional linkage development.
In addition, Thu Duc City also needs to focus on training high-quality human resources, encouraging innovation, and improving the effectiveness of administrative reform to better serve people and businesses.
