On September 16, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a decision approving the Project to build, renovate, and expand Ton That Thuyet street and the green park along the Te canal bank.
According to the decision, Ton That Thuyet street, the section from Street No. 1 to Truong Dinh Hoi street, more than 3.4 km long, will be expanded from about 7m (2 lanes) to 28m (6 lanes). The project also builds a new bridge across Nguyen Kieu canal.
In addition, the city will build a new planned road No. 1, about 185m long and 28m wide; renovate and expand Nguyen Kieu bridge on Ben Van Don street, 81m long, with a cross-section width of 25m according to the plan.
The project also invests in synchronous drainage systems, green trees, lighting, technical trenches and other technical infrastructure works.
A notable item is the new construction of a dike protection system with a total length of about 3.3 km, including a dike along the Te canal bank and a dike protecting the Nguyen Kieu canal bank along planned road No. 1.
A green park will be built along the Te canal bank, contributing to expanding public space and urban embellishment.

The total investment of the project is 5,621 billion VND, of which compensation, site clearance and resettlement costs are more than 4,100 billion VND, accounting for nearly 74% of the total capital.
The project is expected to affect 598 households, including 461 households completely cleared and 137 households partially cleared.
Specifically, in Khanh Hoi ward, there are about 28 affected households; Xom Chieu ward is about 126 households, of which 100 households are completely cleared and 26 households are partially cleared. Vinh Hoi ward has about 444 affected households, including 333 households completely cleared and 111 households partially cleared.
The project is expected to be implemented in the period 2026 - 2029.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the project investment aims to complete the main traffic axis through Vinh Hoi, Khanh Hoi and Xom Chieu wards; increase connectivity with Ben Van Don road, Nguyen Tat Thanh road being studied for expansion and the Nguyen Khoai bridge - road project through two branches of bridges N3, N4.
Along with road expansion, the project aims to embellish the city, clear houses on and along the Te canal, improve the landscape, environment and improve the quality of public space and technical infrastructure in the area.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction to monitor, inspect, and supervise the implementation process, guide connection plans and traffic organization, and promptly handle difficulties and obstacles under its authority.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to coordinate with the People's Committees of Vinh Hoi, Khanh Hoi and Xom Chieu wards to carry out procedures on land, compensation, support, resettlement and related contents, ensuring project progress.
The People's Committees of Vinh Hoi, Khanh Hoi and Xom Chieu wards are responsible for coordinating the organization of compensation, support, resettlement, site clearance and site handover according to schedule.
