Manchester United and Chelsea have reached a £40 million deal for Alejandro Garnacho. The two clubs agreed on a fixed fee, ending the time the Argentine was in disarray at Old Trafford after a conflict with coach Ruben Amorim.
This is the fourth biggest transfer deal in Man United's history, after Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku and Angel Di Maria. The "Red Devils" also collected a 10% transfer interest fee. Previously, Man United were determined to keep the valuation for Garnacho unchanged, having rejected Chelsea's £25 million opening offer.
Garnacho was left out of the starting lineup for Man United in the 1-0 defeat in the Europa League final to Tottenham and then publicly criticized Amorim.

As a result, the 20-year-old winger was deported by Amorim and was not allowed to participate in Man United's pre-season tour in the US. The Argentine has to train separately with other left-handed players, including Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Marcus Rashford - who joined Barcelona on a season-long loan.
After the defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final, Garnacho could not hide his disappointment: "Up to the final, I was present in every round to help the team, but today I only played 20 minutes.
I really don't know what to say anymore. The final will definitely affect my decision, but so will the season and the situation at the club. Now I just want to enjoy the summer vacation, then let's see what happens next."
The tension escalated when Garnacho's brother, Roberto, posted on social media: "Working tirelessly, contributing in every round, scoring twice in the last two finals, then being on the field for only 19 minutes and being thrown under the bus".
Garnacho has not participated in Man United's opening 3 matches in the Premier League this season. That included a home defeat to Arsenal. The "Red Devils" then shared the points disappointingly against Fulham.
However, that has not been the worst thing for Man United in the past few days. They have just been left out of the Carabao Cup by fourth-tier Grimsby Town in a humiliating way.
Man United were behind by 2 goals until the last minutes, before Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire equalized, taking the match into a penalty shootout. However, bad shots by Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha caused the "Red Devils" to lose 11-12, giving Grimsby a ticket to the next round.
As for Garnacho, he will be in London today (August 29) for a medical check-up, before signing a contract until 2032 with The Blues.

Despite being just 21, Garnacho has made 144 appearances for the first team of Man United, including 93 Premier League appearances, scoring 16 goals. The Argentine winger stands out for his speed, technique and was once expected to become the "new Cristiano Ronaldo".
Notably, Garnacho has had a crush on Chelsea since he was a child. In the summer transfer window of 2025, he received many attractive offers, including a huge salary from Saudi Arabia. However, in the end, Garnacho refused everything waiting for the opportunity to wear the Blues shirt.
