According to information from World Deportivo, Dr. Minarro passed away while sleeping at the Gran Melia Torre Melina hotel, where the team was staying, in the early afternoon of March 8. Before that, the 53-year-old doctor had lunch with the whole team.
Carles Minarro joined Barca in 2017 and started working with the first team in the summer of 2024 after finishing his work at the team's futsal team. The players received sad news when they arrived at Montjuic Stadium to prepare for the match.
After discussion, Barca's board decided to postpone the match, and this decision was approved by the Spanish Football Federation as well as the La Liga organizing committee. The time to reorganize the match has not been determined.
The announcement of the postponement was made just 20 minutes before the match, when thousands of fans were present at the stadium. After receiving the notice, they politely left.
Barcelona players all expressed their deep sadness on social media. Midfielder Gavi shared: "The doctor will always be in our hearts, we will miss him very much".
Meanwhile, Pedri wrote: "I can't believe it, send a big hug to Carles' family and friends". Center back Araujo also expressed his grief: "Please rest, doctor, send strength to your family and friends during this difficult time."
Barcelona is currently leading La Liga with 57 points after 26 matches. In the next match, this team will meet Benfica in the second leg of the 1/8 round of the Champions League on March 11.
