On March 15, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the United Nations Secretary-General had just officially announced that Vietnam had completed the procedures for storing maps and a list of geographical coordinates related to the base route used to calculate the territorial width in the Gulf of Tonkin.
The announcement dated March 12, 2025 of the United Nations Secretary General to member countries stated that on March 7, 2025, in accordance with Clause 2, Article 16 of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam has deposited at the United Nations a map and a list of geographical coordinates of points for determining the direct base route for the mainland in the Gulf of Tonkin and the maritime borders in this area.

The announcement of the United Nations Secretary General also stated that the Declaration of the Vietnamese Government dated February 21, 2025 on the basis for calculating the sovereignty extent in the Gulf of Tonkin will be published in an official publication called the upcoming United Nations "Sea Law News".
