Overview
Erling Haaland's incredible scoring form has shown no signs of slowing down, even during the international break.
In just 90 seconds, he scored two goals in a row to help Norway beat Italy 4-1. Before that, this striker also scored another double against Estonia.
At Manchester City this season, Haaland has played 15 matches in all competitions and only failed to score twice, against Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
The 25-year-old striker has scored a total of 19 goals, including 14 in the Premier League - nearly double the second-placed player in the scoring list (Igor Thiago with 8 goals).
The next Premier League goal will see Haaland reach 100 league goals, despite having played just 108 games. If he can do it, Haaland will break the record for the fastest player to reach the milestone of 100 goals in the Premier League, currently held by Alan Shearer with 124 matches.
It is a coincidence that Haaland had the opportunity to break the record right at Alan Shearer's old "home" - St James' Park. This weekend, Pep Guardiola's team will travel to Newcastle United.
The convincing 3-0 victory over Liverpool in the previous round helped Man City narrow the gap with leaders Arsenal to 4 points. While Arsenal arrived late for Tottenham, Guardiola will certainly take advantage of this opportunity to put real pressure on the title race.
If City showed signs of losing steam at the same time last year, this season they are gradually regaining their familiar rhythm, despite relying heavily on Haaland's ability to score. No other City player has scored more than one goal in the Premier League this season. Haaland has scored 14 of the team's 21 goals, accounting for 66.7%.
If there is a defense capable of limiting the strength of the fearsome No. 9 striker on Man City's side, Newcastle will have that opportunity.
In the Premier League this season, only Man City (10.4) and Arsenal (6.1) have lower expected goals conceded (xGA) than Newcastle (11.4). Eddie Howe's side have also kept five clean sheets - a tally only behind Arsenal with seven.
However, Newcastle are in decline. They are currently 14th, just 2 points above the relegation zone, after two consecutive defeats with the same score of 1-3 against Brentford and West Ham.
They are in trouble on the attack front. Nick Woltemade has had a promising start, but Yoane Wissa's injury and Anthony Gordon's declining form have left them lacking a stable source of goals.
The Magpies have only scored 11 goals in the Premier League this season - more than just three teams: Wolves (7 goals), Leeds United (10 goals) and Nottingham Forest (10 goals).
Head-to-head record
Newcastle have won just one of their last 35 Premier League meetings with Man City (D6 L28). That was a 2-1 home win in January 2019 under Rafael Benitez.
City have had 12 away wins in the Premier League against Newcastle, their highest number away from a competition in a league - equal to 12 wins at Everton.
Man City have also scored in 33 consecutive Premier League meetings with Newcastle. Only three matches in the history of the tournament have had a longer scoring streak: Chelsea against Newcastle (37 matches, period of 1933-1969), Tottenham against Newcastle (35 matches, 22.681) and Everton against Blackburn (34 matches, 25.1962).
Meanwhile, Eddie Howe has never won against Man City in 18 Premier League meetings (2 draws, 16 losses) - the longest run without a manager against an opponent in the competition's history.
Score prediction: Newcastle 0-2 Man City
The match between Newcastle and Man City takes place at 0:30 am on November 23 (Vietnam time).
