Urgently overcome the damage after the flood, restore traffic in Gia Lai

THANH TUẤN |

Gia Lai - After days of prolonged floods causing deep flooding in many areas, the government and people focused on repairing damaged roads and houses.

On November 21, in communes in the western area of Gia Lai such as Phu Thien, Ia Pa, Ayun Pa, Ia Tul... the local government and people urgently deployed the work to overcome the consequences of floods.

In particular, the forces mainly focused on repairing damaged roads, schools and houses. The authorities and local people have organized the leveling of mud and cleared the landslide-prone inter-commune roads to ensure traffic is restored.

Currently, Ia KDrieng bridge passing through Ia Tul commune was flooded with water, causing the foot of the bridge to collapse, causing 2/3 of the bridge abutments to collapse. The authorities have set up checkpoints to block and prohibit cars from crossing the bridge; people can only walk or ride motorbikes.

Many severely damaged points are being surveyed by specialized agencies to have a long-term repair plan.

In addition, the electricity and water supply sectors are urgently fixing the problem, ensuring power supply and water supply return to affected areas.

The People's Committee of Gia Lai province said that it will continue to inspect and assess the damage, and at the same time propose the Central Government to support funding to restore essential infrastructure and help people overcome difficulties after natural disasters.

Initial estimates show that floods caused more than VND1,000 billion in damage; data continues to be compiled and updated by authorities. Gia Lai has evacuated thousands of households to safety.
