Gyokeres continued to make Man United's management envious with a goal against Slovakia last night. In the 3rd minute, the Sporting Lisbon striker had an impressive sprint, eliminating 2 opposing defenders, then took a moment to adjust the ball and decisively shot diagonally.
Not stopping there, Gyokeres had another assist to help striker Isak seal a 2-1 victory for Sweden. This victory also helped coach Jon Dahl Tomasson and his team officially win a ticket to play in League B 1 round early.
Since the beginning of the season, the 26-year-old striker has scored 28 goals and provided 7 assists for the national team and club. For Sporting Lisbon, Gyokeres has scored 23 goals in just 17 matches, including 16 goals in the Portuguese national championship, 5 goals in the Champions League and 2 goals in the Allianz Cup.
Not only is he an excellent scorer, Gyokeres is also a great creator. In the Portuguese national championship alone, every 90 minutes, he makes 2 passes to set up his teammates to score.
Most notably, in the 4-1 win over Man City, Gyokeres scored a superb hat-trick against goalkeeper Ederson. He also silenced superstar striker Erling Haaland and The Citizens conceded four goals for the first time since the 2016 season.
Since the 2023 season, Gyokeres has been the most impressive striker in Europe with 66 goals in 67 matches. In the 2023-2024 season alone, he scored 43 goals in 50 matches, winning the Golden Boot and the national championship trophy.
This has added more heat to the board of directors of Man United, the team that is very eager to have the service of the Swedish striker. With Ruben Amorim sitting in the "hot seat" at Old Trafford, Gyokeres is on the way to return to the most successful team in the Premier League.
In a recent interview, Gyokeres left open the possibility of following Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford: "Right now, it's all rumours. I want to finish the season at Sporting Lisbon. I enjoy playing here. I don't feel pressured to change in the future. We don't know what the future holds."
The Portuguese club is sure to make a big profit with the Gyokeres striker deal, as it only cost 24 million euros to recruit him in July 2023. Currently, the Sporting Lisbon striker is valued at 65 million euros by Transfermarkt.
