A break from negative headlines was short-lived for Manchester United and manager Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils’ ineffectiveness in front of goal saw them draw with Crystal Palace and Twente, converting just one of their 33 shots.
Ten Hag admitted that he and his players need to "look in the mirror" after the match against Twente in the Europa League. Because with a series of difficult matches coming up, there is no room for mistakes.
Consistency has been an issue for Man United for a long time, as evidenced by their perfectly even split of results in their last 15 Premier League games (W5 D5 L5).
Things are not much better at Old Trafford, where the last 19 Premier League games have yielded just nine wins (D3 L7).
But the Tottenham game could be a game changer as United have won 24 of their Premier League meetings at Old Trafford.
Tottenham arrive in Manchester on the back of a much more impressive showing in Europe, beating Qarabag 3-0 despite being reduced to 10 men after just eight minutes. Their recovery must have been particularly pleasing for manager Ange Postecoglou, as Spurs have come from behind to win their previous two games.
Tottenham now have the chance to win four consecutive games for the first time since October last year.
Unbeaten in their last three games against Man United (W1 D2) means the visitors can be confident, but will need to improve their recent away form, having picked up just 14 points from 15 games (W3 D5 L7).
