In his first official training session, Ruben Amorim may have given Man United fans some information about the lineup he will use in his debut match against Ipswich Town in round 12 of the Premier League.
In a nearly 7-minute video posted on the Man United homepage, the Portuguese strategist had his first activities in the dressing room and on the training ground. Amorim's insistence on playing with a 3-4-3 formation has helped fans and experts gradually shape the personnel that can be suitable.
If the speculations circulating in the British media are correct, Red Devils fans could be in for a surprise this weekend as several players are tested in new roles.
In the diagram above predicted by Sky Sports, Marcus Rashford will play as the striker instead of Joshua Zirkzee or Rasmus Hojlund. The reason is that the team's two real strikers are in the process of focusing on the national team, so when they return to Carrington, they may not have recovered their physical strength in time.
This could be the first and last chance Amorim gives Rashford to show his ability. If the English striker cannot meet the requirements, it is not surprising that he will have to be a friend of the bench as in the past.
Amorim said that Mason Mount will be an important player for the team in the coming time. Therefore, this is an opportunity for the 39-year-old coach to use the English star. Along with Amad Diallo, Mason Mount will be arranged to play in attack right below Rashford. This is also the position where the English midfielder shined at Chelsea, contributing to the historic victory in the 2021 Champions League final.
However, after Bruno Fernandes returns from international duty and regains fitness, both Mount and Amad will have to compete fiercely with the captain for the attacking position behind this centre-forward.
The highly-rated Antony could get a chance to prove himself. The Brazilian striker struggled to prove himself under his former coach Erik ten Hag for a long time. The €100 million star has been given a head start by Amorim and will take on the right-back role, similar to how Amorim used Geovany Quenda at Sporting Lisbon.
If both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are fit for Sunday's clash, they could start together on the left flank. If this is true as Sky Sports predicts, it would be the first time United fans have seen such a strange arrangement, with both players playing almost identically.
The other notable position in the three-man defence will be new signing Leny Yoro. The 18-year-old centre-back from Lille has not played any matches since the start of the season after being injured in the preparation phase and having to rest for 3 months. Yoro, with his speed, is likened to "the Mbappe of defence", and will be a very new feature that Man United has not had in many years.
Man United's notable absentees this weekend: Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Rasmus Hojlund, Harry Maguire, Alejandro Garnacho, Manuel Ugarte, Christian Eriksen, Joshua Zirkzee.
