A day after officially arriving at Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim announced his new coaching staff. The 39-year-old's previous assistants at Sporting are all present, including Carlos Fernandes, Jorge Vital, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro and Paulo Barreira.
Although he brought his entire team to the new team, Amorim did not completely break with the old members of Erik ten Hag's coaching staff. Darren Fletcher, Andreas Georgson and Craig Mawson were still retained.
Among these, Fletcher's position is considered the most important because he is the one who understands Man United the most in the current coaching staff, having spent a long time with the Old Trafford team.
Among the new assistants brought to England, Amorim still chose Fernandes to lead this group as he did at Sporting. Fernandes is someone who has been with Amorim for a long time, since the young strategist started his career at Casa Pisa, then went to Sporting Braga and Sporting Lisbon.
Meanwhile, Vital comes to Man United as a goalkeeper coach. Candido and Ferro both join as first-team coaches. The next person is Barreira, who will be the fitness coach. Previously, Barreira did similar work at Arsenal and Liverpool, so he is quite knowledgeable about the Premier League. He will have more or less experience in this playground.
Candido is currently unable to officially start work due to visa issues in the UK. Amorim plans to add Eduardo Rosalino as an assistant analyst, but Rosalino is facing similar issues as Candido. However, both are in good standing with their visas and should start work soon.
This Amorim team was very successful in the Primeira Liga, but whether they can do the same in the Premier League is a completely different matter. Previously, Ten Hag was also successful and famous like Amorim but failed. The assistants Ten Hag brought in during the early stages all failed to leave their mark.
Ten Hag's closest confidant, Van der Gaag, had already left the club before the Dutchman was sacked. Ten Hag had added Ruud van Nistelrooy to his coaching staff before the start of the season, but he did not last the season with his new assistant. When Van Gol left the club, his assistants Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel also left Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim will have his first match in his new position on November 24 when Man United visit Ipswich Town in round 12 of the Premier League.
