Argentine Martinez was substituted in the 82nd minute after a lengthy spell on the pitch, following a seemingly harmless tackle on Palace striker Ismaila Sarr.
The former Ajax player has been sidelined twice since joining Man United in 2022 with foot and knee injuries. Coach Amorim said that with the latest injury, Martinez is likely to be out for a long time.
"Licha Martinez is really important for us, not only as a player, but also because of his courage. I think it's a bad situation. We'll see what the doctor says, but I think his injury is serious.
"We will see in the coming days but I think the situation is not positive. Martinez feels that way and when you are a player you know something serious happens to you. We are here to help him in this difficult moment just like he helped us," Amorim said after the match.
Martinez cried after being carried off on a stretcher. Based on his performance on the pitch, it is likely that the Argentine central defender has suffered a knee ligament injury and could be out for the rest of the season.
Man United suffered their seventh Premier League home defeat of the season, losing 2-0 to Crystal Palace. This is the same number of defeats as in the 1973-74 season when Man United were relegated.
Amorim said the defeat to Crystal Palace by coach Oliver Glasner was avoidable, because Man United made defensive errors in both goals.
“It was a difficult day for the team and the fans. Man United lost again and conceded two goals that we could have avoided. It is natural for the fans to feel disappointed.
It was a difficult season for them but football can change at certain times. I will prepare for the next game and move forward. Better things will come,” Amorim said.
