Coach Ruben Amorim admitted that Manchester United will have to sell some players in the summer of 2025 to have money to rebuild the team.
Man United have announced a loss of more than £300 million in the past 3 years, as minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has begun a brutal cost cut. This includes the dismissal of more than 250 employees and the possibility of another 200 employees also losing their jobs.
In that context, Amorim has hinted at a major squad overhaul in the summer of 2025. He needs money to rebuild the team and try to bring the "Red Devils" back to a competitive position.
Stars like Casemiro, Antony and Marcus Rashford are among the players who could bring a big fee to Man United. Currently, Antony and Rashford are playing on loan at Real Betis and Aston Villa respectively.
Man United were unable to afford to spend big in the January transfer window due to complying with the Premier League's profit and sustainability (PSR) rules. Amorim himself has admitted the financial pressure the club is suffering.
"It's not a new problem, we know the rules. We have a problem at the moment, but I am focused on that problem, not other things.
Here everything is very simple, to do something in the transfer market we need to sell players. The transfer window is closed, we have to focus on the next match, then in the summer we will consider it" - Amorim said.
Amorim said that players on loan have the ability to develop elsewhere, away from the pressure and supervision at Old Trafford: "Sometimes that can happen at any club.
This is a club with a lot of pressure and at this club, you have to have a foundation with younger players, talented players, a solid foundation, but we don't have that at the moment. But you need to deal with the pressure. Sometimes they go to other clubs and get more freedom without pressure."
When discussing the pressure at Old Trafford, Amorim also gave a subtle allusion to Tottenham's colleague Ange Postecoglou.
"I am a big fan of Postecoglou. I come from another culture, I am Portuguese and Portuguese coaches can adapt.
I was using a system at the time, because I believe that if you work on that system, we will adapt at the same time, but we do not win games" - the Portuguese strategist added.
