With the results yet to be announced, many people believe that Sir Alex will be ranked No. 1 because he has had a brilliant career with Man Utd.
However, according to France Football's vote, the Scots strategist is only in 2nd place. The leader of France Football's choices is the legendary Dutch coach, Rinus Michels.
His coaching career has been associated with 3 teams: Ajax, Barcelona and the Netherlands.
With Ajax, Michels won 4 Dutch National Championship titles, 3 Dutch National Championship trophies and 1 Champions League (1970-71). Coming to Barcelona, he also won 1 La Liga and 1 King's Cup. As for the Dutch national team, he won EURO 1988 and finished second at the World Cup 2014.
Michels invented a fiery attacking style of play in the 70s, which was total football. The idea of this style of play is that the whole team attacks and defends together. The ball is always directed forward and any direction can score.
He was voted FIFA Coach of the 20th Century (in 1999). Michels passed away in March 2005 at the age of 77 after heart surgery.
Second on the list is Sir Alex Ferguson, who has turned M.U into a force in world football. Sir Alex was in charge of M.U from 1986 to 2013 and made 1,500 appearances for the Red Devils. During his tenure, M.U almost dominated the foggy country with 13 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups, 5 League Cups. In the Champions League, Sir Alex's team also won the championship twice.
Rinus Michels' student, coach Johan Cruyff is in 4th place. Behind Cruyff is Pep Guardiola, who is also a student of the Dutch strategist at Barca.
In the top 10 greatest coaches voted by France Football, most of the coaches have retired or passed away. Only two coaches are still working, Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti. In the contemporary world, Pep deserves the highest position because he has achieved so much success with Barcelona, Bayern and now Man City. Ancelotti is one of three coaches to have won the Champions League the most (3 times - along with Bob Paisley and Zidane).
In the top 50, there are still many famous coaches, many of whom are still working such as Jose Mourinho (13), Marcelo Lippi (16th), Van Gaal (18), Klopp (27), Simeone (31), Wenger (32), Benitez (37), Conte (49).
Zidane has not had much experience on the coaching bench, but with 3 consecutive seasons helping Real Madrid win the Champions League, he is still ranked 22nd by France Football.
According to France Football's vote, Italy and Germany are the two countries with the most coaches (7 people). Followed by France, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK (all with 5 people).
