FIFA says each country should allow transfers of 16 weeks a year. In Europe, there has been a practice for many years, with four of those weeks used in mid-season, commonly known as the winter transfer window. This means there are only 12 weeks left for summer transactions. The actual start and end date will depend on the country. However, this period of time is not too different.
As is known, FIFA has opened a short-term transfer period, from June 1 to 10, for teams to prepare for the Club World Cup in the US. However, this transfer period will not change the closing date of this year's summer player market. In the Premier League, this summer market has been reopened since June 16. The remaining major tournaments in Europe will choose the 1.7 mark to restart.
The top 5 European championships in England, France, Germany, Spain and Italy have agreed the last day of the 2025 summer transfer window to be September 1. The deadline for receiving players' signatures in contracts is 7:00 p.m. on September 1 (UK time).
The reason for the change in the end date is that every year it is August 31. The reason is that this year August 31 falls on a Sunday, so this summer's transfer window has been postponed by 1 day. This is a decision by FIFA to flexibly handle the situation so that teams have more opportunities to attract stars in the last minute.

Some other countries have different timelines from the top 5 European leagues. Belgium will open from 15 June and end on 5 September. Meanwhile, the time frame for Greece is 1.7 and 12.9, respectively. In Portugal, the teams are allowed to "go to the market" from July 1 to September 15, while in Turkey, the market will not close until September 13.
The teams are allowed to sign free agents after the summer transfer window ends. FIFA stipulates that players who do not have a contract with any team can sign a new team, regardless of the transfer period or outside.
However, there is one thing that not many fans know. Players must become free at the transfer window, then they can sign with another team when the transfer window ends. Any player whose contract is terminated after the transfer window has closed must wait for another transfer window to open before being free to sign another club.
